FEBRUARY 2012

Saturday 25th February- Cotswold Care Hospice helps people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. On Saturday 25th February the hospice are organising a Mens Walk in Gloucester to raise awareness and funds. Help is needed to man the route from 10am-2pm (arrival 9am) and for people to register the guys at 9am-10am (arrival at 8.30am) and then re-register them from 11.00am-2pm – volunteers will then have free access to watch the Eng v Wales rugby game at Kingsholm afterwards plus a ticket to the Gloucester v Harlequins game.
Commitment time: 1 day

MARCH 2012

Saturday 3rd March
- Cobalt Heath are a medical charity that supports services for people who cancer or other life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers are needed for a collection at Morrisons in Tewkesbury (10am-4pm).  2 volunteers wanted each hour (1 or 2 hour shifts) to hold a bucket in the store foyer and accept donations from customers. Cobalt t-shirts will be provided.
Commitment time: 1 hour

Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Great Daffodil Appeal is taking place across Gloucestershire. Volunteers are needed to take donations and give out daffodil pins.

Wednesday 14th March- Wellchild is a national charity for sick children. Help is needed for a street collection outside Cheltenham Race Course. The 14th March is Ladies Day and will be a great opportunity to get involved with the atmosphere of race week and raise money for Wellchild. Last year the collection raised over £2,000!
Commitment time: 2 hours

Wednesday 14th March- No Smoking Day aims to give people information, advice and support. NHS Gloucestershire is looking for volunteers on 14th March to help man the No Smoking Pods in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Forest of Dean, Cirencester and Stroud. The pods have information and gadgets to help educate about the effects of smoking. 
Commitment time: 2 hours

Saturday 24th March- Cheltenham Housing Aid Centre help people with mental health issues access housing and support, and preventing homelessness. On the 24th March they are holding a fundraising collection in central Cheltenham to help raise money to support their clients. Help is needed to hold collections tins and give out information.
Commitment time: 2 hours

APRIL 2012

Sunday 1st April
- The Forest of Dean Half Marathon is organised by the Rotary Club and all proceeds go to charity. Volunteers are needed to be course marshalls, start/finish marshalls, car parking stewards and road closure stewards. This is a great way to get involved in the event without needing to break a sweat!
Commitment time: 1 day

Sunday 18th to 22nd April- Cheltenham Poetry Festival is a community festival of events and activities aimed at all ages and interests in Cheltenham. Volunteers are needed throughout the festival for a range of tasks from taking to tickets, to Tweeting during events, film making to stewarding. There are lots of ways to get involved.
Commitment time: 2 hours or more

Wednesday 25th April- The Motor Neurone Disease Association helps support people with this degenerative disease. On 25th April MNDA are holding a film evening at the Bacon Theatre at Dean Close school, Cheltenham. This will be a ladies night out featuring the film Mama Mia. There will be entertainment and refreshments before the performance, a raffle and copious amounts of popcorn! On the night help will be needed on the door to collect tickets, to sell raffle tickets, give out popcorn and drinks.

MAY 2012

Saturday 12th May and Sunday 13th May-
Help for Heroes are holding a fundraising collection and merchandise sale to raise money to support people wounded in service of their country. The collection will be held at Cheltenham Asda, help is needed on both days; between 10am to 4pm.
Commitment time: 2 hours

Saturday 12th May- Cotswold Care Hospice are holding their annual Summer Fete 12 noon until 4pm at their hospice in Minchinhampton, Stroud. Help is needed before the event to help with marketing and promotions, volunteers are also needed to bake cakes for sale on the day. On the day itself volunteers are needed to help run Hospice stalls, cover the gate, direct traffic and serving food.
Commitment time: 2 hours

Sunday 20th May- British Heart Foundation organises the annual Cotswold Bike Ride to raise money for their work. Starting at Bishops Cleeve the route follows a 40 mile course the ride starts at 8.15am and finishes at 5pm. Help is needed through-out the day at the start/finish areas and along the course.
Commitment time: 1 day

JUNE 2012

Friday 15th June-
  Cirencester Midnight Walk  raises money for Cotswold Care Hospice. The walk happens between 10pm and 2am, help is needed with running registration, setting up the hall, marshalling the route and welcoming walkers back to a celebration breakfast.
Commitment time: 1 evening

Saturday 16th June- The Cotswold Way Challenge takes place over Cleeve Hill, Cheltenham and raises money to support St John Ambulance. Volunteers will be an integral part of the running of the day and will undertake various roles including manning the car park for participants, start and finish point registration, manning check points, road crossing and water points. Help is needed for either a full day and be a rolling marshal or a half day at one specific point. Times for the full day are 7.30am until 18.30pm. Finish point marshals will also be responsible for the distribution of goodie bags and make sure that all participants are directed to and accounted for on the transport
Commitment time: 4 hours +

Sunday 24th June- The Cotswold Cycle Challenge raises money for Cotswold Care Hospice. The route goes around Cotswold’s 5 valleys and finishes at the Hospice in Stroud. The event runs from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Volunteers are needed to support with registering riders at the Hospice, helping to sign the route and welcoming riders back when they finish the road ride.
Commitment time: ½ a day

JULY 2012

Saturday 7th July-
Nibley Music Festival is a not-for-profit community festival in the Cotswolds. Help is needed to steward, help in the craft tents, man the gate and help in the bars. The festival has music, entertainment and workshops.
Commitment time: 2 hours

Saturday 7th July- The Midsummer Fiesta in Montpellier is a community event of music, activities and charity stalls in Cheltenham. Help is needed on the day to support the event, setting up and closing down, litter picking, marshalling, meeting and greeting, and helping to run activities.
Commitment time: 3 hours

Cancer Research UK organise Race for Life to raise money to fund their life-saving work. The events attract thousands of women who all run or walk 5k or 10k to raise money. In Gloucestershire the events take place in Cheltenham, Cirencester and Gloucester. Volunteers are needed in the build-up to events and on the day to help in a range of ways; promotion activities, marshalling the course, giving our medals and registering runners. The event dates are;
Sunday 17th June- Gloucester Park
Sunday 1st July- Cheltenham Racecourse
Sunday 22nd July- Cirencester Park
Commitment time: 1 day

OCTOBER 2012

Saturday 13th October-
  Cotswold Race the Train raised money for Cotswold Care Hospice. Starting and finishing at Cheltenham Race Course the runners will race the local steam train along a lung-bursting course!  Volunteers are needed to help with registering runners, marshalling the route and a welcome party to welcome runners back when they finish their challenge. The event is from 8am to 3.30pm.
Commitment Time: 1 day

NOVEMBER 2012

Friday 2nd November-
Cotswold Care Hospice are holding a fundraising Firewalk at their Hospice in Minchinhampton, Stroud. The event happens between 5pm until 10.00pm with more than 20 people walking over hot coals to raise money. Volunteers are needed to help register participants and serve hot drinks and food to supporters.
Commitment time: 1 evening

Saturday 10th November- Cotswold Care Hopsice Autumn Fayre will have more than 20 stalls selling Christmas gifts at the Hospice in Minchinhampton, Stroud. Volunteers are needed to help run stalls and a raffle,  help serve food and drink and help with set up and tidying up after. Help is needed between 10am and 5pm.
Commitment time: 2 hours

DECEMBER 2012

Tuesday 4th December
- Cotswold Care Hospice are holding a service offering those who have been bereaved to remember a loved one at Christmas. The service will take place at Minchinhampton Parish Church in Stroud before a short Lantern Walk of Remembrance to the Cotswold Care Hospice.  Volunteers are needed to help with marshalling the Lantern Walk and serving Mince Pies and hot cordial between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
Commitment time: 1 evening.
